Hyderabad is witnessing a unique display of devotion this Ganesh Chaturthi, with the installation of a Ganesh idol styled to resemble Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. The idol, which has been erected in the Goshamahal area of Hyderabad, has quickly become a center of attention, drawing surprise and interest from devotees and the public alike.
The Ganesh idol is the brainchild of Congress leader Mettu Sai Kumar, Chairman of the Telangana Fishermen Co-operative Societies Federation. Kumar's initiative stems from his admiration for Revanth Reddy, viewing him as a "real hero" who is working tirelessly to elevate Telangana to the top position in the country.
The idol itself is a striking representation of the Chief Minister. It is dressed in Revanth Reddy's trademark attire: a white shirt, black trousers, and a green scarf. This attention to detail has made the idol instantly recognizable and has contributed to its widespread attention. The pandal where the idol is installed has been named "Telangana Rising".
The trend of designing Ganesh idols in the likeness of popular figures, including cricketers and cinema stars, is not new in the Telugu states. However, the decision to depict the deity as a political figure has ignited a debate. While some admire the creativity and the reflection of contemporary society in the idol, others feel that the Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations should remain apolitical.
Mettu Sai Kumar has defended his creation by stating that people often celebrate figures like those in "Baahubali" and "RRR," but he believes Revanth Reddy is the true hero due to his efforts to develop Telangana.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, along with his family, offered prayers on Ganesh Chaturthi at their residence in Jubilee Hills. He extended his greetings to the people of Telangana, praying for Lord Vigneshwara to remove obstacles and bring happiness, wealth, and health to everyone's lives.
