The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has recently approved the promotion of two senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officers from the 1994 batch to the position of Special Director in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The officers, Manoj Shashidhar and Sampat Meena, were previously serving as Additional Directors within the CBI. They will now assume their new responsibilities until their respective dates of superannuation.
Manoj Shashidhar, an IPS officer from the Gujarat cadre, will hold the position of Special Director, CBI until his superannuation on November 30, 2030. Shashidhar is known for his integrity and extensive operational experience, and has held several key positions within the CBI and various state police departments. His career includes roles such as DCP (Crime Branch), Inspector General of Gandhinagar Range, and Police Commissioner of Vadodara.
Sampat Meena, an IPS officer from the Jharkhand cadre, has also been appointed as Special Director, CBI, and will serve in this capacity until March 31, 2031, her superannuation date. Meena has a distinguished career in both state policing and central investigative agencies, including multiple tenures in the CBI where she has led high-profile investigations.
The elevation of these officers is particularly significant as it comes at a time when the CBI is facing increased public and judicial scrutiny. As Special Directors, Shashidhar and Meena will be entrusted with overseeing critical investigations and enhancing the operational efficiency of India's leading investigative agency. Their appointments are expected to provide leadership continuity and bring stability and strategic direction to the bureau's operations in the coming years. The decision to promote these officers also restores the posts of Special Director, which had previously been functioning at the level of Additional Director.
