Reacting to the devastating floods in Punjab, Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan's Meer Foundation has stepped forward to provide assistance to the affected families. The foundation is collaborating with local NGOs to distribute essential relief kits to 1,500 households across several districts, including Amritsar, Patiala, Fazilka, and Ferozepur.
The state of Punjab is currently facing one of the worst flood disasters in decades, triggered by overflowing rivers like Sutlej, Beas, and Ravi, caused by heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir. The floods have disrupted the lives of lakhs of people, causing damage to homes and livelihoods.
The Meer Foundation's initiative aims to address the immediate needs of the flood-affected families by providing them with essential items such as medicines, hygiene supplies, food items, mosquito nets, tarpaulin sheets, folding beds, and cotton mattresses. The goal is to support their rehabilitation and help them rebuild their lives with dignity. In Amritsar, the Meer Foundation is collaborating with the NGO "Voice of Amritsar" (VOA) to help rebuild and provide essential household items to 500 homes that were severely impacted.
Shah Rukh Khan also expressed his support and prayers for the people of Punjab through a post on social media. He wrote, "My heart goes out to those in Punjab impacted by these devastating floods. Sending prayers and strength… The spirit of Punjab shall never break… may God bless them all".
Several other celebrities have also come forward to support the flood relief efforts in Punjab. Actor Alia Bhatt shared her prayers and support for the affected families. Punjabi singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh has adopted ten of the worst-hit villages in Gurdaspur and Amritsar, promising long-term rehabilitation and essential supplies. Singer-actor Ammy Virk and his team have adopted 200 homes of affected families. Many other prominent names from the entertainment industry, including Karan Johar, Sanjay Dutt, Kapil Sharma, Bharti Singh, Suniel Shetty, Rajkummar Rao, Vicky Kaushal, and Shilpa Shetty, have also expressed their solidarity and support for the flood victims.
Several Punjabi artists are also actively involved in providing assistance on the ground. Singer Jasbir Jassi has opened a helpline for flood victims. Gippy Grewal has sent trucks filled with silage to save cattle. Many others are working to ensure that supplies reach the remotest areas.
The collective efforts of these celebrities and organizations are providing much-needed support to the people of Punjab as they grapple with the aftermath of the devastating floods.
