The Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB) is reintroducing wireless communication sets to enhance security along the route to the revered shrine. This move aims to strengthen the communication network, especially after a recent 19-day closure due to a landslide. The pilgrimage is set to resume on Sunday, September 14, 2025, contingent on favorable weather conditions.
The decision to reinstate wireless sets is part of a broader effort to upgrade infrastructure and safety measures for the upcoming Shardiya Navratras, scheduled from September 22 to October 1, 2025. Sachin Kumar Vaishya, the Chief Executive Officer of SMVDSB, chaired a meeting with senior officers from various agencies, including security forces, the district administration, and fire and emergency services, to discuss and implement these enhancements.
The focus is on ensuring a seamless and secure pilgrimage experience for the expected influx of devotees. Disaster management preparedness is a key priority, with emphasis on firefighting arrangements, simulation exercises, and the joint deployment of SDRF personnel alongside SMVDSB's Disaster Management Task Force for effective crowd management in vulnerable areas.
In addition to reintroducing wireless sets, the Shrine Board is also focusing on several other critical measures:
The Vaishno Devi Yatra had been suspended since August 26, 2025, following a cloudburst-triggered landslide at Adhkuwari in the Trikuta Hills, which resulted in casualties and injuries. Restoration work has been carried out on the damaged track and commercial structures in Katra, with authorities emphasizing that pilgrim safety remains their top concern.
The Shrine Board has expressed gratitude to devotees for their patience and understanding during the suspension. They have also reaffirmed their commitment to upholding the sanctity, safety, and dignity of the revered pilgrimage. Pilgrims are advised to carry valid identification, stick to marked tracks, and cooperate with support staff along the route. For live updates, booking services, and helpline support, devotees are encouraged to visit the Shrine Board's official website.
