The Delhi Police have denied permission to the Shiv Sena (UBT) group for a planned protest against the India-Pakistan cricket match. The match is part of the Asia Cup 2025. The Shiv Sena (UBT) wanted to stage their demonstration at Jantar Mantar in Delhi.

The reason stated by the Delhi Police for denying permission was that the application for the protest was not submitted 10 days prior to the event, as required by regulations. Leaders of the Shiv Sena (UBT) have expressed their disappointment with the police's decision.

The Shiv Sena (UBT)'s opposition to the cricket match stems from recent terror attacks and broader concerns about relations with Pakistan. Sanjay Raut, a member of Parliament for Shiv Sena (UBT), has called the decision to play the match an act of "treason" and "shamelessness". The party's women's wing was set to launch a campaign called 'Sindoor Raksha Abhiyan' to protest the match. This campaign is meant to express outrage, particularly in light of the recent Pahalgam terror attack where 26 women lost their husbands. Raut questioned how the government could allow cricket matches with Pakistan when the "pain, grief and anger" of the Pahalgam victims' families still linger.

Concerns and criticism have risen regarding the India-Pakistan match, especially in light of the terror attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 civilians. Aishanya, the widow of a Kanpur businessman who died in the Pahalgam attack, has publicly appealed for a boycott of the match, calling the decision "deeply insensitive". She accused the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) of disregarding the sentiments of the victims' families.

The Supreme Court has declined to intervene and halt the cricket match. A bench of Justices JK Maheshwari and Vijay Bishnoi rejected a request to urgently list a plea seeking an interim stay on the match, stating that the match should proceed as scheduled.

Conversely, the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena has criticized Uddhav Thackeray's stance, claiming that he relinquished Hindutva for power and therefore lacks the moral ground to oppose the match. Naresh Mhaske, a spokesperson for the Shinde Sena, stated that Thackeray, who once praised Pakistan, cannot suddenly oppose such matches. Ajit Pawar, the deputy chief minister of Maharashtra, acknowledged the differing opinions on the matter but pointed out that the decision was made at the appropriate forum.
