An Army Major, Apraant Raunaq Singh, has died in the line of duty in the Nowgam sector of Kupwara district in Jammu and Kashmir. Major Singh, who was in his 30s and a resident of Banaras, fell ill on the evening of September 19, 2025. He was immediately evacuated to the Army's 92 Base Hospital in Srinagar. Despite medical intervention, he succumbed to his illness. While initial reports indicated a cardiac arrest as the cause of death, further details are awaited.

The Nowgam sector, where Major Singh was posted, falls under the operational jurisdiction of the Baramulla-based 19 Infantry Division. The Army confirmed Major Singh's sacrifice and paid tribute to him. The Chinar Corps Commander saluted his valor and sacrifice, expressing solidarity with the bereaved family and committing to their well-being.

The Army's Srinagar-based 15 Corps, also known as the Chinar Corps, also conveyed their respect for the Major's bravery. The circumstances surrounding Major Singh's death are not combat-related.

In a separate incident, Lance Dafadar Bharvad Mehulbhai Mepabhai made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty in the Ganderbal district on September 18, 2025. Northern Army Commander Lt General Pratik Sharma and all ranks of Northern Command paid homage to the brave heart.

These incidents underscore the risks and sacrifices made by Indian Army personnel serving in Jammu and Kashmir. The region remains a challenging operational environment, requiring constant vigilance and dedication from the armed forces. The Army continues to conduct operations to counter terrorist activities in the area.
