NSA Ajit Doval and Brazil Security Advisor explore avenues for closer India-Brazil strategic partnership and collaboration.

National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval and Special Advisor to the President of Brazil, Celso Luis Nunes Amorim, convened in New Delhi for the 6th India-Brazil Strategic Dialogue to discuss ways to strengthen the strategic partnership between the two nations. The meeting served as a follow-up to the five pillars of cooperation identified during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's state visit to Brazil in July 2025.

During the dialogue, Doval and Amorim reviewed the progress in various areas, including defence and security, energy, rare earths and critical minerals, and health and pharmaceuticals. They also explored cooperation in multilateral forums such as BRICS, IBSA, and the upcoming COP-30, which Brazil will host in November. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to implement the vision set forth by Prime Minister Modi and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

The discussions also covered strengthening partnerships in defence, security, energy and critical minerals. Cooperation in health, pharmaceuticals, and multilateral forums like BRICS was also on the agenda.

The External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar, also met with Ambassador Amorim to explore opportunities for deepening strategic cooperation between India and Brazil. Jaishankar expressed his pleasure in meeting Amorim and noted a useful exchange on the current global scenario and opportunities to deepen strategic cooperation.

Brazil was the first Latin American nation to establish diplomatic relations with India in 1948, with the ties elevated to a strategic partnership in 2006. This partnership is built on a common global vision, shared democratic values, and a commitment to fostering economic growth with social inclusion. Both countries cooperate in plurilateral forums such as BRICS, G20, IBSA, G-4, the International Solar Alliance, and the Global Biofuel Alliance.

Looking ahead, Brazilian Vice President Geraldo Alckmin is expected to visit India in October, leading a delegation of ministers and business leaders. This visit will be preceded by the 7th meeting of the India-Brazil Trade Monitoring Mechanism at the Trade Secretary level and further discussions between NSA Amorim and Ajit Doval on defence industry collaboration and supply chain security. Furthermore, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is scheduled to visit India in February 2026.

Both India and Brazil are prioritizing bilateral cooperation in areas such as food and energy security, defence manufacturing, critical minerals, and digital infrastructure.
