Jets Secure Adam Lowry with a 5-Year Contract Extension, Solidifying His Role for the Future.

The Winnipeg Jets have secured their captain, Adam Lowry, for the long term, announcing a five-year contract extension with an average annual value of $5 million. The deal, totaling $25 million, will commence in the 2026-27 season.

Lowry, currently in his 12th NHL season – all with the Jets – has been the team's captain since 2023-24. The 32-year-old center has played seven games this season, recording three points (one goal, two assists) after recovering from hip surgery he underwent in May. He made his season debut on November 4.

Drafted by Winnipeg in the third round (67th overall) of the 2011 NHL Draft, Lowry has become a cornerstone of the Jets' organization. Last season, 2024-25, he posted career highs in goals (16), game-winning goals (4), and plus/minus (+18), while also notching 18 assists for 34 points in 73 games. He also contributed four goals in the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs, including the double-overtime, series-winning goal against the St. Louis Blues.

Since Lowry's appointment as captain on September 12, 2023, the Jets have amassed an NHL-best 120 wins and 250 points, while also boasting the league's lowest goals-against-per-game average (2.40). In his NHL career, Lowry has recorded 276 points (122 goals, 154 assists) and 420 penalty minutes in 782 games. He has also added 24 points (15 goals, 9 assists) and 37 penalty minutes in 62 postseason games.

Lowry's impact extends beyond offensive contributions. He has consistently been recognized as one of the league's premier defensive forwards, finishing in the top 10 in voting for the Frank J. Selke Trophy in each of the past two seasons.

Internationally, Lowry won a silver medal with Canada at the 2022 World Championships, recording nine points (4 goals, 5 assists) in 10 games.

The Jets are currently 12-7-0 through their first 19 games of the 2025-26 regular season, placing them fourth in the Central Division. This signing underscores the Jets' commitment to maintaining a strong leadership core and building upon their recent successes, including winning the Presidents' Trophy in 2024-25. The team posted a franchise record of 116 points (56-22-4) that year.

Jets General Manager Kevin Cheveldayoff lauded Lowry's contributions to the team, citing his leadership qualities, defensive prowess, and commitment to the Winnipeg community as key factors in the decision to extend his contract. "Adam embodies everything we want in a captain," Cheveldayoff said. "He's a tremendous player, a respected leader in the locker room, and a great ambassador for our team and our city."

Lowry was playing this season on the final year of a five-year, $16.25-million deal he signed in April 2021.
