India's Diverse Voices: Multi-Party Delegations to Represent Nation at the United Nations General Assembly.

India will send two multi-party parliamentary delegations to the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York. This move highlights the nation's commitment to showcasing its democratic diversity on a global platform and enabling Members of Parliament (MPs) to contribute to international discussions.

The first delegation, led by BJP MP P P Chaudhary, will be in New York from October 8 to October 14, 2025. The second delegation, headed by BJP MP Daggubati Purandeswari, will visit from October 27, 2025.

According to an MP, these delegations are considered "non-official," embodying the collective voice of India's parliamentary democracy on significant global issues rather than strictly representing the state. The delegation led by Chaudhary includes 15 members, such as Anil Baluni, Nishikant Dubey, and Ujjwal Nikam from the BJP; Vivek Tankha and Kumari Selja from the Congress; Rajeev Rai from the Samajwadi Party; and N K Premachandran from the RSP. The second delegation includes V D Sharma, Dilip Saikia, and Rekha Sharma of the BJP, Manoj Kumar Jha of RJD, P Wilson of DMK, G K Vasan of TMC(M), and Sandeep Kumar Pathak of AAP, among others.

Purandeswari stated that the UNGA is a crucial platform for member nations to discuss key global issues, including peace and security, human rights, development, and international cooperation. She conveyed her anticipation for representing India and contributing to these important discussions on the world stage.

An official noted India's long-standing tradition of sending parliamentary delegations to the UNGA, allowing MPs to engage in international discourse, though this practice was temporarily interrupted in 2004.

India's priorities at the UNGA include addressing terrorism, advocating for reforms within the UN, and promoting greater global cooperation. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has emphasized that terrorism remains a significant challenge for India, identifying a "neighbor" as the epicenter of global terrorism. He also underscored the importance of reforming the multilateral system and highlighted India's transformation under Prime Minister Modi's leadership, particularly in digital public infrastructure and socio-economic growth.

India is actively seeking a permanent membership in an expanded United Nations Security Council and is working to build international support for this goal. India is engaging with other developing countries to strengthen efforts toward urgent and comprehensive reform of the Security Council.

India is committed to supporting sustainable development, financing for development, and addressing climate change. India aims to strengthen engagement with developing countries, especially Least Developed Countries (LLDCs), Landlocked Developing Countries (LDCs), and Small Island Developing States (SIDS) through the India-UN Development Partnership Fund and IBSA Fund.

India is also focused on enhancing its presence in peace operations, promoting the use of technology in peacekeeping missions, and strengthening accountability for crimes against peacekeepers.
