Kolkata School Mourns Loss of Class 9 Student During Sports Event
KOLKATA, Oct. 11— A class 9 student from a private international school located on the southern fringes of Kolkata tragically passed away on Friday during a sports event held on the school grounds. The student, identified as Arkadeep Bag, collapsed after participating in a race held as part of the selection process for the school's upcoming annual sports day.
According to a police officer, Arkadeep had completed his race and was speaking with the Physical Education teacher when he suddenly collapsed. The school's PE teacher, who is certified in administering CPR, immediately performed CPR on the student. The school nurse also attended to Arkadeep and advised that he be taken to the nearest hospital for urgent medical attention. He was rushed to a nearby private hospital, where he was declared dead.
In a statement, the Principal of B D M International, Kamalgazi, Narendrapur, expressed deep sorrow, stating, "it is with profound grief and sorrow that we inform the passing of our beloved student Arkadeep Bag of class nine, section 14, on October 10". The principal further elaborated that Arkadeep participated in a 33-meter race during the selection process for the annual sports meet. After finishing first, he briefly spoke with the physical education teacher before collapsing.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident. According to initial reports, the post-mortem examination and accounts from doctors suggest that Arkadeep's death was due to health-related issues. "However, we are investigating the case," the police officer stated. Authorities are questioning teachers, friends, and non-teaching staff present at the scene. CCTV footage from the area is also being reviewed as part of the investigation.
