Delhi Blast: Raveena Tandon Offers Condolences, Sonu Sood Says 'Let's Commit To Peace'
A high-intensity explosion near Delhi's Red Fort on Monday evening has left at least 13 people dead and over 20 injured, triggering a massive security response and drawing reactions from across the nation. The blast, which occurred in a car at a traffic signal near the Red Fort Metro station around 6:50 PM, has prompted widespread শোক and calls for peace.
The explosion, which involved a Hyundai i20 car, caused a fire that engulfed several nearby vehicles. Eyewitnesses reported a loud explosion that shattered windows and caused buildings to tremble. The injured were rushed to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) Hospital.
In the wake of the tragedy, Bollywood actors Sonu Sood and Raveena Tandon have expressed their condolences and called for unity. "My heart reaches out to everyone impacted by today's tragic blast near the Red Fort in Delhi," Sonu Sood wrote on social media. "Let's support the victims, look out for each other, and commit to peace". Raveena Tandon also shared her grief, stating, "Condolences to all those bereaved families who lost their loved ones in the Delhi blast. Horrible news".
The Delhi Police have registered an FIR under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Explosives Act, indicating a potential terror angle. Multiple agencies, including the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), National Investigation Agency (NIA), and National Security Guard (NSG), are investigating the incident. Preliminary investigations suggest that ammonium nitrate, fuel oil, and detonators may have been used in the blast.
CCTV footage has revealed that a lone suspect was in the car. The car's route is being traced, with investigators examining over 100 CCTV clips, including footage from nearby toll plazas. Initial probes suggest a possible link to Pulwama, with the car allegedly purchased by a resident of the area. According to sources, the person driving the car was Umar Mohammad, a Pulwama resident and a doctor.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited the blast site and met with the injured in the hospital. He stated that all possibilities would be explored and a thorough investigation conducted. Shah is also scheduled to chair a high-level security review meeting in New Delhi. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has conveyed condolences and announced heightened security at major railway stations.
The US Embassy in India has issued a security alert for its citizens. Several states, including Maharashtra and Punjab, have been placed on high alert, with increased security measures at vital installations and public places. The Red Fort has been temporarily closed to visitors for three days, and the Red Fort Metro station has also been shut down.
President Droupadi Murmu expressed condolences to the bereaved families. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta visited the injured at LNJP hospital and appealed for calm.
