Following the attempted targeting of Jammu and other locations in India by Pakistan, veteran Bollywood actor Anupam Kher shared a video on social media, capturing the reactions of his family in Jammu. The video included a message from his cousin, expressing pride and faith in the Indian armed forces.
On May 8, 2025, Anupam Kher posted a video on X (formerly Twitter) that showed explosions illuminating the night sky over Jammu. This occurred shortly after India's S-400 air defense system intercepted and destroyed eight missiles launched from Pakistan. Security agencies confirmed that the missiles were aimed at key civilian and strategic areas, including the Jammu civil airport, Samba, RS Pura, Arnia, and surrounding regions. The swift action of the S-400 system prevented any loss of life or damage to infrastructure.
Kher's cousin, Sunil Kher, sent him a video from his home in Jammu, in which he conveyed a sense of security and resilience. Anupam Kher immediately contacted his cousin to inquire about his family's safety. His cousin responded with a mix of pride and reassurance, saying "Jai Mata Di! Bharat Mata Ki Jai! भैया! हम भारत में है! हम हिंदुस्तानी है।हमारी सुरक्षा भारतीय सेना और माता वैष्णो देवी कर रही है।आप टेंशन मत लो।वैसे भी कोई भी मिसाइल हम ज़मीन पर नहीं लगने दे रहे। जय माता की! भारत माता की जय (Brother! We are in India! We are Indians. Our safety is in the hands of the Indian Army and Mata Vaishno Devi. Don't worry. Anyway, no missile is being allowed to hit the ground here) Jai Mata Di! Bharat Mata Ki Jai!".
The attempted attacks and the subsequent response triggered reactions from various Bollywood celebrities, with many expressing support for the nation and prayers for the safety and well-being of the people. Actress Shraddha Kapoor shared her pride in the protectors of the nation with "Jai Hind".
In response to Pakistan's actions, India launched a counter-strike, targeting air defense radars and systems in Pakistan, and neutralizing one system in Lahore. On the night of May 7-8, Pakistan attempted to strike military targets in Northern and Western India, including Awantipura, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bhatinda, Chandigarh, Nal, Phalodi, Uttarlai, and Bhuj, using drones and missiles. These threats were neutralized by the Integrated Counter UAS Grid and Air Defence systems. Debris from the attacks is being recovered from multiple locations, confirming the Pakistani assault.
The incident has led to heightened tensions, with increased unprovoked firing across the Line of Control (LoC) using mortars and heavy-caliber artillery in areas such as Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri, Poonch, Mendhar, and Rajouri sectors in Jammu and Kashmir. India has stated that its actions were a response to Pakistan's unprovoked heavy shelling across the LoC, which resulted in the loss of sixteen lives, including women and children. Despite the conflict, the Indian Armed Forces have affirmed their commitment to non-escalation, provided Pakistan respects the same.
