Amit Sadh recently recounted an incident from the early days of his career when he almost didn't star in the film that would become a significant launchpad for him, "Kai Po Che!". In a conversation on Cyrus Says, the actor revealed that he actually quit the film on the very first day due to a confrontation with the film's director, Abhishek Kapoor.
Sadh explained that during the first script reading, Kapoor was upset about a female actor exiting the project. The director criticized the actors, including Sadh, Rajkummar Rao, and Sushant Singh Rajput, for not displaying enough emotion. Feeling protective of his co-stars, Sadh was offended by Kapoor's tone and confronted him, asserting that he had no right to speak to them in that way.
Following the disagreement, Sadh made the impulsive decision to leave the film. "I came back home that day and decided that I was not going to do this film because Gattoo was rude to us,” he said. The filmmakers attempted to find a replacement for him, but they were unsuccessful.
A week later, Sadh and Kapoor encountered each other again. Kapoor questioned Sadh's decision to quit, asking if he had other work, a house, or a car. When Sadh answered no, Kapoor asked why he had quit the film.
Sadh has acknowledged that he struggled with anger management early in his career. "I had a very bad temper, and I was very violent," he admitted. "The one thing I am proud of is that I met the right people, and I read the right book, and I realised that anger was futile. I found the other way, which is communication".
"Kai Po Che!" went on to become a critical and commercial success, launching the careers of Sadh, Rao, and Rajput. The film is a buddy drama about three friends who start a sports shop and academy to train young cricketers.
Sadh has also spoken about how deeply he was affected by Sushant Singh Rajput's death in 2020. He admitted that he wanted to quit the industry after Rajput's passing. Sadh revealed that he tried to contact Rajput a few months before his death but was unable to reach him. He expressed his sadness and regret for not being able to connect with his former co-star. He said that for the year and a half they worked together, including Rajkummar Rao, they were like "lovers" and he feels immense love for them both, and anger if anyone speaks ill of them.
