In a recent interview, actress Dipshikkha Nagppal recalled her experience working with Shah Rukh Khan on the set of the 1997 film "Koyla." She shared that her initial encounter with the superstar left her feeling hurt and challenged due to what she perceived as his rude behavior.
Dipshikkha, who like many women of her generation, admitted to being enamored with Shah Rukh Khan's on-screen persona, particularly his character Raj from the iconic film "Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge" (DDLJ). This made her first meeting with him on the "Koyla" set all the more impactful. She recounted an incident where Shah Rukh Khan's comments on her acting abilities stung her ego. According to Dipshikkha, after director Rakesh Roshan praised her performance, Shah Rukh Khan responded with a dismissive, "Yeah, let's see." She took his remark as a challenge, determined to prove her capabilities as an actress.
Despite the initial friction, Dipshikkha revealed that she and Shah Rukh Khan eventually became friends. She even shared that he had recommended her for a role in the Abbas-Mustan film, "Baadshah." The actress learned about Shah Rukh's recommendation from the producer, Ratan Jain, but Shah Rukh himself never mentioned it.
Dipshikkha also spoke about the stark contrast between the working conditions and attitudes of actors in the 90s compared to the present day. She recalled the simplicity and humility of stars like Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan during their early careers. She recounted that during the shooting of "Koyla," there were no vanity vans, and Shah Rukh Khan would sleep amidst the coal mine machinery and flashing lights. The focus was primarily on completing the work, highlighting a time when acting was not considered a prestigious profession, and the emphasis was on the craft. She contrasted this with the current trend where everyone desires to become an actor, with expectations of vanity vans and entourages.
Dipshikkha has previously shared insights into the demanding conditions during the "Koyla" shoot. She described how the entire unit would wake up at 4 AM, travel to remote locations, and work in extreme conditions with limited facilities. She humorously noted that they were like "highly paid laborers" due to the challenging environment.
Dipshikkha Nagppal has had a versatile career in Bollywood, with roles in films like "Koyla," "Baadshah," "Dillagi," and "Partner." She has also appeared in television shows such as "Shaktimaan," "Son Pari," "Kittie Party," and "Ramayan," and was a contestant on "Bigg Boss 8." Her last film appearance was in "One Day: Justice Delivered" (2019), and she has recently been seen in shows like "Megha Barsange" and "Ishq Jabariya."
