Satinderjit Singh, better known as Goldy Brar, the Canada-based gangster, has claimed responsibility for the murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala, stating that the singer "made some mistakes that could not be forgiven." In an exclusive interview, Brar discussed the motives behind the killing, his involvement, and his views on justice.
Moose Wala was shot dead in his SUV near his village in Punjab's Mansa district on May 29, 2022. Brar admitted in a Facebook post a day later that he planned the murder to avenge the killing of another gangster, Vicky Middukhera. Police later named Brar as the mastermind.
Brar, a key member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, said that they did what they deemed necessary. He stated, "Yes. We have acknowledged this before. We do not do things which have to be hidden. We see no harm in admitting the things that we've done. Yes, we acted with a lot of thought." He added, "We do not believe we have done anything illegal that we need to hide. We are prepared to make any sacrifices necessary for it, but we did what was needed."
According to Brar, Moose Wala was an "egoistic person" who misused his political and financial power. "It was necessary to teach him a lesson, and he was taught one," Brar said. He claimed that Moose Wala had personally harmed them and made unforgivable mistakes, justifying their actions as a form of punishment. "When a rich man has close ties with top police officers and when the government doesn't do justice, how can we expect justice from the courts? So, we sought justice ourselves," he added.
Brar elaborated on the events leading up to the murder, pointing to a kabaddi tournament in Punjab as a flashpoint. He alleged that Moose Wala was promoting their rivals, which upset Lawrence Bishnoi and others. Tensions were initially defused through the intervention of Vicky Middukhera, but his subsequent murder in August 2021 reignited the conflict. Brar claimed that Moose Wala was connected to Middukhera's murder, stating, "Everyone knew Sidhu's role, the police investigating knew, even the journalists who were investigating knew. He was using political power, money, his resources to help our rivals."
Brar expressed disdain for India's legal system, stating, "Law. Justice. There's no such thing. Only the powerful can [obtain] justice, not ordinary people like us. I did what I had to do for my brother. I have no remorse whatsoever."
The murder of Sidhu Moose Wala sent shockwaves through India, raising concerns about the power and reach of gangsters. Extortion has long been a problem in the Punjabi music industry, and Moose Wala's murder has exacerbated the issue.
Despite claiming responsibility for the murder, Brar remains on the run. Interpol has issued a Red Corner Notice against him, and there is an outstanding non-bailable warrant for his arrest.
