The sudden demise of Sunjay Kapur, ex-husband of actress Karisma Kapoor, has sent shockwaves through Bollywood. The industrialist passed away in London on Thursday after reportedly collapsing during a polo match. News reports suggest he suffered a cardiac arrest.
Actress Kangana Ranaut was among the first celebrities to express her grief and disbelief. She described the news as "unbelievable" and "bizarre" in a social media post. Ranaut further elaborated on the circumstances surrounding Kapur's death, stating, "Sunjay Kapoor (Karisma Kapoor's ex-husband) was on the polo ground, a bee went into his mouth (yes madhamakkhi on the polo ground) stung him and blocked his windpipe, he couldn't breathe so he asked the game to be stopped but immediately died of a cardiac arrest."
Ranaut also expressed her dismay at the series of unfortunate events that have occurred in 2025, including the Pahalgam attack, Operation Sindoor, the Bengaluru Stampede, and the recent Air India crash in Ahmedabad. "Such a tragic news. Also I am done with trying to make sense of all the bizarre events that 2025 is bringing into our lives. Everyone stay safe and keep praying to God," she wrote.
Sunjay Kapur's death has been mourned by other members of the film fraternity as well. Shalini Passi, from "Fabulous Lives vs Bollywood Wives," expressed shock and sadness over the loss of her friend.
Kapur was married to Karisma Kapoor from 2003 to 2016. The couple divorced in 2016 after filing for divorce by mutual consent in 2014. They have two children together: daughter Samaira and son Kiaan.
Prior to his death, Kapur's last social media activity was reportedly mourning the victims of the recent Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad.
The circumstances surrounding Sunjay Kapur's death, as described by Kangana Ranaut, are unusual and have contributed to the sense of shock and disbelief among those who knew him and the public. The incident serves as a reminder of the fragility of life and the unpredictable nature of events.
