Madhoo, the celebrated actress known for her roles in the 90s, recently opened up about a distressing experience she had during the filming of a movie in that era. In an exclusive interview, she recalled a "horrible" kissing scene that was sprung on her without prior notice, leaving her feeling deeply uncomfortable.
According to Madhoo, the scene wasn't part of the original script she had agreed to. This lack of communication left her feeling unprepared and violated. She emphasized that she wasn't against kissing scenes in general, but she firmly believed in being informed and having the opportunity to consent beforehand. The actress described the kiss as a mere "peck on the lips," a far cry from the more explicit scenes seen in contemporary cinema. However, the lack of transparency surrounding the scene made the experience particularly unpleasant.
Madhoo recounted being taken aside after the scene was filmed, where she was told about the scene's importance to the film. Despite understanding the explanation, she still considers it the "most horrible" and "non-convincing" kiss she has ever done. The actress admitted that while the scene may have achieved its intended purpose within the film, the way it was executed left her with negative feelings.
This incident sheds light on the power dynamics that existed in the film industry during the 90s, where actresses often had limited control over their on-screen portrayals. Madhoo's experience highlights the importance of open communication, consent, and respect for actors' boundaries on set.
Despite this unpleasant memory, Madhoo is looking forward to her upcoming film "Kannappa," where she will be sharing screen space with Akshay Kumar and Mohanlal after a long time. This project marks a significant moment for her, making her feel like she is back in the industry after years of tentative work. She also spoke about facing sexism and typecasting in the industry. While she had amazing songs and dance sequences, she was lucky to work in movies like "Yeshwant" and "Pehchaan" and her first film, "Phool Aur Kaante."
In the same interview, Madhoo discussed turning down several films that required her to wear swimsuits or do kissing scenes. She also recalled an incident where legendary Telugu actor Mohan Babu, the producer of "Kannappa," confronted her about refusing to work with him in the 90s. She was unaware of this incident, suggesting that her manager may have been the one to decline the offer.
