The highly anticipated war film, Border 2, is generating buzz with new details emerging about Varun Dhawan's character and the rigorous training he's undertaking for the role. Set to release on January 23, 2026, the film, directed by Anurag Singh, aims to recapture the patriotic fervor of the original 1997 film, Border.
Varun Dhawan is reportedly playing the role of a Param Vir Chakra awardee. Sources indicate that he might be portraying Major Hoshiar Singh Dahiya. To prepare for the role, Dhawan has been deeply involved in understanding the life and mindset of an army officer. He has spent time with Indian officers, even celebrating Army Day with them. The actor has also undergone extensive physical and dialect training to authentically portray his character.
To ensure the realistic portrayal of army personnel, the filmmakers have enlisted the help of the Indian Army. An army officer has been assigned to guide Varun Dhawan on set, focusing on his body language, gait, and speech to reflect the discipline of real soldiers. Furthermore, the officer is providing artillery training to the cast to enhance the realism of the battle sequences. Varun has also been practicing the local dialect of Uttarakhand, as his character hails from that region.
Recently, a photo of Varun Dhawan engaging in a round of approximately 50 knuckle push-ups with a group of Indian soldiers went viral. This display of camaraderie and physical dedication underscores Dhawan's commitment to embodying the spirit of the Indian armed forces.
Border 2 boasts a stellar cast including Sunny Deol, reprising his role from the original, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty. While specific plot details are still under wraps, Border 2 is expected to delve into another significant military engagement during the 1971 Indo-Pak war. The film aims to highlight themes of patriotism, courage, camaraderie, and sacrifice.
The film is produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, JP Dutta, and Nidhi Dutta, with the original Border director, JP Dutta, serving as a producer alongside his daughter, Nidhi Dutta.
