External Affairs Minister (EAM) Dr. S. Jaishankar is scheduled to visit the United States from June 30 to July 2, 2025. The primary purpose of his trip is to participate in the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (QFMM) on July 1. The meeting is hosted by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
The Quad Foreign Ministers will build upon previous discussions, including those held in Washington D.C. on January 21, 2025. Discussions will focus on regional and global developments, particularly those concerning the Indo-Pacific. Progress on various Quad initiatives will also be reviewed as the Quad Leaders’ Summit, which India will host later this year, approaches. Ministers are expected to discuss new proposals to promote a free and open Indo-Pacific.
The Quad is a strategic dialogue between the United States, Japan, Australia, and India. The U.S. State Department principal deputy spokesperson, Thomas Pigott, stated that Secretary Rubio's first diplomatic engagement was with the Quad, and the upcoming summit aims to build on that momentum to advance a free, open, and secure Indo-Pacific. Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya said that he is also going to attend the Quad meeting. He added that their objective is the realization of a free and open Indo-Pacific, and they intend to promote practical cooperation in extensive areas, including maritime security, economic security, and cyber security.
In addition to the Quad meeting, EAM Jaishankar will inaugurate an exhibition titled "The Human Cost of Terrorism” at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on June 30, 2025. The exhibition will highlight the devastating impact of terrorist acts worldwide and the international community's efforts to combat terrorism.
During the visit, Jaishankar will also exchange views on bilateral cooperation with participating countries.
