Yashasvi Jaiswal Stays with Mumbai: MCA Approves NOC Reversal for Upcoming Domestic Cricket Season

Yashasvi Jaiswal, the Indian international cricketer, is set to represent Mumbai in the upcoming domestic season after the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) accepted his withdrawal of the No Objection Certificate (NOC). MCA President Ajinkya Naik confirmed that the Apex Council approved Jaiswal's request, ensuring his availability for Mumbai in the forthcoming domestic season.

Earlier this year, in April 2025, Jaiswal had surprised MCA officials by seeking an NOC to move to Goa, citing personal reasons. This decision would have seen him follow in the footsteps of other Mumbai players like Arjun Tendulkar and Siddhesh Lad, who have also represented Goa. Goa Cricket Association's secretary, Shamba Desai, had welcomed Jaiswal's decision, even suggesting the possibility of him captaining the team.

However, in May 2025, Jaiswal made a U-turn, emailing the MCA to withdraw his NOC application. In his email, Jaiswal explained that his family plans to shift to Goa had been curtailed and requested the MCA to allow him to play for Mumbai in the upcoming season. He confirmed that he had not submitted the NOC to the BCCI or the Goa Cricket Association.

The MCA secretary, Abhay Hadap, acknowledged Jaiswal's change of heart and stated that the decision on his return to Mumbai would be taken by the MCA's Selection Committee and Cricket Improvement Committee (CIC). The Goa Cricket Association also showed understanding towards Jaiswal's decision.

Jaiswal's initial decision to leave Mumbai was reportedly influenced by the prospect of a leadership role with Goa. Some reports suggested that he was also seeking a change due to personal reasons. However, veteran cricketer Siddhesh Lad dismissed speculation that Jaiswal's exit was due to friction with the Mumbai team management.

Yashasvi Jaiswal made his first-class debut for Mumbai in January 2019. He has since become an integral part of the Indian national team, representing the country in all three formats of the game. Jaiswal made his international debut in a Test match against the West Indies in July 2023, scoring a century in his first innings. He has also achieved success in the Indian Premier League (IPL), playing for the Rajasthan Royals. In May 2023, he hit the fastest IPL half-century in just 13 balls.

Jaiswal's return to Mumbai is a positive development for the team, as he is a talented and experienced player who can contribute significantly to their success in the upcoming domestic season. His presence will also provide an opportunity for younger players to learn from him. Jaiswal has always been a proud product of Mumbai cricket. He has amassed 3712 runs in 36 first-class matches for Mumbai, including 13 centuries and 12 fifties. He is currently ranked 4th in the ICC Test Rankings.
