Ram Kapoor, the popular actor known for his roles in television and film, has been making headlines recently due to his significant weight loss transformation. Having shed 55 kgs in just 18 months, Kapoor's new look has sparked curiosity and speculation about whether it was driven by his career. In a recent interaction with filmmaker Farah Khan, Kapoor addressed these questions with a touch of humor, stating, "My name is not Khan".
Farah Khan visited Kapoor's Mumbai home along with her cook, Dilip, and Kapoor's wife, Gautami Kapoor. During the visit, Farah reminisced about knowing Kapoor when he weighed 150 kgs and praised his transformation. She then directly asked if he was now getting more work offers because of his weight loss.
Kapoor responded that his decision to lose weight was not driven by career aspirations. He explained that some actors reach a point where work comes naturally because they have nothing left to prove. "I am no star, never will be a star," he said. "My name is not Khan, but mein size mein bada hoon ya chhota hoon, kaam milta hai. Meine yeh kaam ke liye nahi kiya, career ke liye nahi kiya, apne aap ke liye kiya," which translates to "Whether I'm big or small in size, I still get work. I didn't do this (weight loss) for work or for my career, I did it for myself". He further added that he had promised himself that he would focus on his health upon turning 50.
Farah playfully disagreed with Kapoor's self-assessment, stating, "He is a big star". She also acknowledged that as people get older, they often prioritize their health. Gautami Kapoor shared insights into Ram's weight loss journey, describing it as intense and disciplined. She revealed that the family had to make significant lifestyle changes, such as reducing social activities and avoiding outside food. She also mentioned that Ram followed rigorous fasting routines, sometimes fasting for 24 to 48 hours. Gautami emphasized that Ram was determined to achieve his goals without shortcuts, focusing on discipline rather than just weight loss. "It was a tough year. We stopped socializing and ordering food. He did 24-hour fasts, even 48 hours. It wasn't just his journey—it affected all of us," she said.
Kapoor's weight loss journey has not only been a personal transformation but also an inspiration to many. He clarified that his transformation was achieved naturally. Currently, Ram Kapoor is starring in the web series 'Mistry', a Hindi adaptation of Monk, where he plays an ex-Mumbai Police officer with OCD. The show is available on JioHotstar.
