Neha Mehta, known for her portrayal of Anjali Mehta in the popular sitcom "Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah," has expressed her openness to returning to the show. Mehta, who was part of the show for 12 years before quitting in 2020, has indicated that she would consider returning to the role if the audience desires it and if the producer, Asit Modi, invites her back.
According to reports, Neha Mehta had contacted Asit Modi, the producer of "Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah," expressing her willingness to return to the show after her departure. However, by that time, the production team had already finalized Sunayana Fozdar as her replacement and decided against reversing their decision. Asit Modi mentioned that Neha Mehta had communicated her inability to continue shooting for the show, and despite attempts to contact her, she did not respond until August 10th. He also stated that the replacement had been made and that it was not possible to remove someone who had already been cast.
In an interview, Neha Mehta revealed that she wanted certain changes in "decorum and conduct" on the set before considering her return. She also hinted at the existence of "competition, jealousy, power games and a pinch of ego" on the sets, but refrained from elaborating, stating that she did not want to play into anyone's hands. She emphasized the importance of teamwork and acknowledged her contributions to the show, while also asserting her individual identity and accomplishments in the entertainment industry.
Despite the circumstances surrounding her exit, Neha Mehta has maintained a sense of respect and gratitude towards Asit Modi and the entire team of "Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah". She expressed her appreciation for the hard work and beautiful journey she shared with her co-stars and wished them the best for the future. She also conveyed her readiness to return to the show if the audience and the makers desired it, stating, "I am ready to sail in the waters with my wings open. Open the gateway for me".
Since Neha Mehta's departure, Sunayana Fozdar has stepped into the role of Anjali Mehta. Neha has stated that she has not watched the show since Sunayana's entry but extends her best wishes to the entire team.
Recently, in July 2025, Neha Mehta reiterated her openness to reprising her role as Anjali Mehta if Asit Modi asks her to and if the audience wants her back. She also addressed the issue of pending dues, stating that she had not received her payments for the last six months of her tenure on the show and was hoping for a resolution.
