Unraveling the Mid-Air Assault: Investigating the Motives Behind Indian-Origin Man's Attack on Flight Passenger.

On a Frontier Airlines flight from Philadelphia to Miami on June 30, 2025, a 21-year-old Indian-origin man named Ishaan Sharma from Newark was arrested for allegedly choking a fellow passenger, Keanu Evans. The incident occurred mid-air and led to Sharma's immediate custody upon landing in Miami.

Eyewitness accounts and a viral video depict a physical altercation between Sharma and Evans, with both men grabbing each other's necks while other passengers tried to intervene. Evans stated that the attack was unprovoked, alleging that Sharma approached him from behind while he was returning to his seat and grabbed his neck. He recounted Sharma's disturbing behavior, including a "dark laugh" and threats like, "You puny, mortal man, if you challenge me, it will result in your death". Evans also mentioned informing flight attendants about Sharma's behavior after using the restroom, and they advised him to press the assistance button if the situation escalated.

In court, Sharma's lawyer presented a different perspective, suggesting the incident arose from a misunderstanding related to Sharma's religious meditation. The lawyer stated that Sharma was meditating, and Evans, who was seated behind him, did not appreciate or understand it.

Evans disputes this version of events, saying that Sharma was looking at him angrily, "forehead to forehead", before grabbing his throat and choking him. He said his "fight or flight responses" kicked in, leaving him no option but to defend himself in the confined space of the aircraft.

Sharma faces battery charges and was held on a $500 bond. Authorities are continuing their investigation, reviewing the video, witness statements, and accounts from airline staff to determine the exact sequence of events.
