The first look of Salman Khan's upcoming film, Battle of Galwan, has ignited a wave of excitement among fans, who are hailing it as a potential career comeback for the Bollywood superstar. Following the underperformance of his recent film Sikandar at the box office, fans are optimistic that Battle of Galwan will mark a return to form for Khan.
The film is based on the intense confrontation between Indian and Chinese troops in the Galwan Valley in 2020, a disputed border region in Ladakh. The clash, which took place at over 15,000 feet above sea level, was fought with sticks and stones due to a prohibition on firearms in the area. This event marked the first fatalities in the Sino-Indian border conflict in nearly 45 years.
Khan will be portraying the character of Colonel B. Santosh Babu, the commanding officer of the 16 Bihar Regiment who led Indian soldiers during the conflict. The first look motion poster reveals Khan with bloodstains on his face, sporting a moustache and army uniform, with a fierce expression. The poster includes the words, "Over 15,000 feet above sea level India fought its most brutal battle without firing a single bullet".
The film is directed by Apoorva Lakhia, known for directing action thrillers such as Shootout at Lokhandwala. Battle of Galwan is produced by Salman Khan Films, and the music will be composed by Himesh Reshammiya. Chitrangda Singh will star opposite Salman Khan in the film.
Fans have expressed their excitement on social media, with many celebrating Khan's return to a "meaty role". Some fans have predicted "box office tabahi" and consider this Khan's best poster since Bharat. The film is expected to go into production in July, with the aim of wrapping up shooting by November for a release in 2026.
