Actor Avinash Tiwary recently responded to comments made by Pakistani writer and celebrity stylist, Rao Ali Khan, who body-shamed him on Instagram. Khan's comments referenced Tiwary's physique in the shows Khakhee: The Bihar Chapter and Bambai Meri Jaan, saying, "Loved Bombay Meri Jaan but pls loose [sic] weight and look fit" and also commented on his "belly fat".
Tiwary responded with poise, "Sir, you are a journalist… if you had done any research you would know it was for the part... I suggest get beyond the idea of just vanity for cinema. Thank you". Tiwary's response highlights that his physical appearance in those roles was intentional and part of his character portrayal.
This incident occurred shortly after Tiwary discussed his desire to be seen as more than just an "OTT actor". In an interview with IANS, he mentioned his efforts to diversify his roles after the COVID-19 pandemic shifted many actors to Over-The-Top (OTT) platforms. He stated that he was looking to do theatricals.
Tiwary's response has been widely supported by fans and social media users, who found Khan's comments disrespectful and unnecessary. Many lauded Tiwary for his dignified and assertive reply.
Avinash Tiwary will be seen sharing screen space with Medha Shankr in Ginny Weds Sunny 2. In 2018, Tiwary underwent a significant transformation for his role in Laila Majnu, where he lost approximately 12 kilos in 17 days and isolated himself to get into character.
