Following the recent death of businessman Sunjay Kapur on June 12, 2025, reports have emerged suggesting that his former wife, actress Karisma Kapoor, is seeking a share in his estate, estimated to be worth ₹30,000 crore. Kapur, who headed auto components maker Sona Comstar, passed away in London.
Sunjay Kapur's business empire, which includes Sona Comstar, has a market capitalization of approximately ₹31,000 crore (nearly $4 billion). He took over the reins of the company in 2015 after his father, industrialist Dr. Surinder Kapur's death, and steered Sona Comstar towards significant growth in the electric vehicle (EV) space.
Karisma Kapoor and Sunjay Kapur were married from 2003 to 2016 and have two children together, Samaira and Kiaan. As part of their divorce settlement, Karisma was granted custody of their children, and Sunjay's father's house in Mumbai was transferred to her name.
Several reports outline that Sunjay Kapur had already made provisions for his children, Samaira and Kiaan. Each child was gifted bonds worth ₹14 crore, and they are also expected to receive a monthly income of ₹10 lakh each. These provisions were reportedly put in place to secure their financial future.
Upon Sunjay Kapur's death, the management of his estate is expected to pass to his current wife, Priya Sachdev. Sunjay Kapur's personal wealth was estimated to be $1.2 billion (₹10,300 crore) at the time of his death. While the precise details of Sunjay Kapur's will and inheritance are not yet fully confirmed, it's understood that his children will be well-provided for.
Following the news of Sunjay Kapur's death, Sona Comstar released a statement to reassure investors and partners, emphasizing the company's stability and the lasting legacy of Kapur's vision and values.
