Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary has received a death threat, with the perpetrator issuing a 24-hour ultimatum. The threat, delivered via message to one of Choudhary's supporters, warned that the Deputy CM would be shot.
The alarming message was sent from an unknown number to the mobile phone of one of Choudhary's supporters. The supporter, upon reading the threatening message, immediately alerted the authorities. Law enforcement swiftly initiated an investigation to trace the sender using the mobile number.
According to reports, the threatening message stated, "I will shoot Samrat Choudhary within 24 hours. I am telling the truth". The message was received late Saturday night. Upon checking the number through a mobile app, the worker found it displayed the name Vikram Yadav from Rajasthan.
Samrat Choudhary responded to the threat with defiance, stating his unwavering commitment to the development of Bihar. He asserted that he would not be deterred by such threats, declaring, "Whoever wants to threaten, let them do so. The people of Bihar know that we are committed to the development of the state and will continue to do so". He added that the people of Bihar are happy with the development work being done.
The incident has prompted increased security measures at the Deputy CM's residence and during his public appearances. While no formal complaint had been lodged as of Sunday evening, the police have launched a technical investigation to locate the source of the threat. Patna Superintendent of Police (Central) Diksha stated that the police are aware of the reported threat and are independently investigating the matter, utilizing a technical team to trace the mobile number, identify the accused, and determine their location.
This is not an isolated incident, as a disturbing trend of death threats targeting Bihar's political leaders has emerged in recent months. Earlier this month, Union Minister Chirag Paswan received a death threat on social media, with the sender threatening to attack him with a bomb. The threat was reportedly issued via the social media platform Instagram. The party's chief spokesperson, Rajesh Bhatt, formally reported the matter at the Cyber Crime Police Station in Patna. In a written complaint, the party stated that an Instagram account named “Tiger Meraj Idreesi” had commented on a post by a YouTuber, threatening to kill Chirag Paswan by bombing him and described the post as criminal in nature, reflecting the accused's involvement in illegal and dangerous activities. Vaishali MP Veena Devi also received a murder threat via phone.
These threats have raised concerns about the law and order situation in Bihar. Chirag Paswan has been vocal in questioning the government and NDA, asserting that law and order in Bihar has completely collapsed. Tejashwi Yadav has also criticized the situation, stating that criminals have created disorder in Bihar.
