A disturbing baby-selling scam has been busted in Hyderabad, leading to the arrest of eight individuals, including the owner of a fertility clinic and her son. The arrests followed a complaint filed by a couple who discovered, through DNA testing, that the baby they received through supposed surrogacy was not biologically related to them.
The scam unraveled after the couple grew suspicious and approached the police, alleging fraud by the fertility center. They had paid a substantial amount, reportedly ₹35 lakh, for the surrogacy services. The DNA test results confirmed their fears, exposing a shocking betrayal and prompting a thorough police investigation.
The investigation revealed a complex network involved in illegal surrogacy and baby-selling. Authorities discovered that the fertility clinic was allegedly handing over babies from other couples. The arrested individuals include Dr. A Namratha, the owner of the fertility clinic, lab technicians, and the biological parents of the child.
Further investigation exposed that the fertility center was also involved in illegally collecting and transporting sperm and eggs to Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh, in collaboration with a firm named Indian Sperm Tech.
This shocking case has raised serious questions about the ethical practices within the fertility industry and the potential for exploitation in surrogacy arrangements. It highlights the need for stricter regulations and oversight of fertility clinics to prevent such scams from happening in the future. The police are continuing their investigation to uncover the full extent of the operation and identify any other individuals who may be involved.
