The highly anticipated prequel to the 2022 blockbuster "Kantara," titled "Kantara Chapter 1," is generating significant buzz with the unveiling of Rukmini Vasanth's first look as Kanakavathi. The film, directed by and starring Rishab Shetty, is slated for release on October 2, 2025, and promises to delve deeper into the mythological roots and traditions of pre-colonial coastal Karnataka.
Rukmini Vasanth, known for her performances in "Sapta Sagaradaache Ello Side A and B," has emerged as a sought-after talent in Kannada cinema. Her inclusion in the "Kantara" universe has heightened anticipation for the prequel, with many eager to see her portrayal of Kanakavathi.
The first look poster of Rukmini Vasanth as Kanakavathi was revealed on the auspicious occasion of Varamahalakshmi. In the poster, Rukmini is seen wearing a green and red saree, adorned with heavy jewelry, and a smile while standing inside a palace. The majestic poster hints that she might be playing a princess in the film.
"Kantara Chapter 1" aims to explore the deep-rooted traditions of the Bhuta Kola ritual, along with mythological stories about sacred land protectors. The film is set in pre-colonial coastal Karnataka, promising a visually stunning and culturally rich cinematic experience.
Rishab Shetty has reportedly undergone training in horse riding, Kalaripayattu, and sword fighting for his role in the film. The film will feature a grand war sequence, choreographed by national and international experts, including over 500 skilled fighters and a total cast of nearly 3,000. The sequence was shot on a 25-acre set.
Hombale Films, known for backing culturally rich and emotionally resonant stories, is producing "Kantara Chapter 1". The film's music is composed by Ajaneesh Lokanath, who also composed the music for "Kantara". Arvind S. Kashyap is handling the cinematography, promising a visually stunning experience.
