A building collapse in Jaitpur, specifically in Hari Nagar, South East Delhi, prompted the dispatch of two fire engines to the site on Saturday. The Delhi Fire Services received a call reporting the incident and immediately responded.
Initial reports indicate that at least eight people may be trapped under the debris. Other reports mention that three to four people sustained injuries. Rescue operations are currently underway.
The incident occurred amidst heavy rainfall in Delhi. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for heavy rainfall, accompanied by lightning and thunderstorms, for various parts of Delhi, including North, West, South, South East, and Central districts. The heavy downpour, which began late Friday night, has caused waterlogging in several areas, disrupting traffic and affecting air travel.
Several areas in Delhi are experiencing traffic congestion due to waterlogging, including New Rohtak Road, Zakhira Railway Underpass, GTK Depot, Jahangirpuri, and Adarsh Nagar. The Delhi Traffic Police has issued advisories to commuters, and the Delhi Airport has also advised passengers to plan their travel in advance and consider alternative transport options like the Delhi Metro to avoid delays.
