The upcoming Christmas season in Bollywood is heating up with the announcement of potential box office clashes between major film releases. Kartik Aaryan and Sreeleela's currently untitled romantic film, directed by Anurag Basu, is slated to hit theaters on December 25, 2025. This puts it in direct competition with Alia Bhatt and Sharvari Wagh's spy action thriller, "Alpha".
Initially, Kartik Aaryan and Sreeleela's film was planned for a Diwali release but was delayed due to incomplete shooting. A considerable portion of the movie remains to be completed, which led the makers to shift their focus to a Christmas 2025 release. The film is produced by Bhushan Kumar of T-Series.
The Kartik Aaryan-Sreeleela project is touted to be a musical love story, blending strong drama with Anurag Basu's signature whimsical and humanistic touch. It is being produced on a large scale, with music and visuals crafted to match the grandeur of the Christmas release window. This film marks the first collaboration between Kartik Aaryan and Anurag Basu and also signifies Sreeleela's Hindi film debut.
Meanwhile, "Alpha," starring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari Wagh, is also slated for release on December 25, 2025. The film is expected to be a high-octane entertainer.
Industry insiders are bracing for an intense battle for eyeballs, showtimes, and ticket sales. Historically, holiday clashes have been a double-edged sword, creating buzz and fueling foot traffic but also splitting the audience and potentially limiting each film's overall earning capacity.
December 2025 already promises to be a crowded month for Bollywood, with Ranveer Singh's "Dhurandhar" potentially clashing with Shahid Kapoor's starrer Vishal Bharadwaj film "Romeo" and Prabhas starrer "The Raja Saab" on December 5. "Dhurandhar," "Romeo" and "The Raja Saab," releasing just weeks earlier, will still be in the thick of its theatrical run, vying for the same premium screens.
Kartik Aaryan also has several other projects in the pipeline, including collaborations with Karan Johar on "Naagzilla" and "Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri". He is also reportedly set to star in Shimit Amin's "Captain India".
The last time Bollywood saw this level of December congestion, the competition pushed films to up their game. Strong word-of-mouth could turn the December releases into a blockbuster bonanza.
