Emma Stone is reflecting on her time as Gwen Stacy in "The Amazing Spider-Man" films and sharing her fond memories of working with ex-boyfriend Andrew Garfield. The two actors, who played Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy, dated from 2011 to 2015 after meeting on the set of the 2012 film. They also starred together in 2014's "The Amazing Spider-Man 2".
In a recent interview with Vogue for their September issue, Stone reminisced about her experience working on the Spider-Man movies. When shown a photo from the 2014 London premiere of "The Amazing Spider-Man 2," Stone recalled her time playing Gwen Stacy alongside Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker. "I really loved doing Spider-Man," Stone said. "I loved everyone I worked with. I met Andrew there". She also gave a shout-out to Sally Field and director Mark Webb, who she said were "wonderful".
Stone expressed that the relationships she built during those years are what she remembers most. "That's the recurring theme, the people more than kind of the film itself is what sticks with me for so long". She concluded, "So I have only the fondest memories of this whole experience".
Despite breaking up over a decade ago, Stone and Garfield have remained friends. In 2023, Garfield supported Stone at a special screening of her movie "Poor Things". The former couple also had a reunion at the 2025 Golden Globes on January 5, which was captured by photographer Greg Williams. The photos showed Stone and Garfield sharing a laugh on the red carpet with Stone's husband, Dave McCary.
Garfield has also spoken fondly of Stone in the past. In 2017, he told Vanity Fair, "We care about each other so much and that's a given, that's kind of this unconditional thing". He added, "There's so much love between us and so much respect. I'm her biggest fan as an artist".
Stone and Garfield's on-screen chemistry and off-screen relationship made them a beloved couple during their time together. Even after their split, fans have continued to root for them and reminisce about their relationship. In 2021, when Garfield reprised his role as Peter Parker in "Spider-Man: No Way Home," many fans felt nostalgic for his chemistry with Stone in the earlier films.
Garfield even had to keep his appearance in "Spider-Man: No Way Home" a secret from Stone. "Emma kept on texting me. She was like, 'Are you in this new Spider-Man film?'" Garfield said. "And I was like, 'I don't know what you're talking about.' She was like, 'Shut up. Just tell me.' I'm like, 'I honestly don't know' — I kept it going, even with her. And then she saw it. She was like, 'You're a jerk,'".
Stone has since moved on and married Dave McCary in 2020. They welcomed a daughter, Louise Jean, in 2021. Garfield was rumored to be dating Kate Tomas, but sources say he is still hung up on Stone.
