Boman Irani is overflowing with pride and emotion as his son, Kayoze Irani, embarks on his directorial debut with the film Sarzameen. The veteran actor took to social media to express his feelings, sharing a deeply heartfelt note alongside the unveiling of the film's trailer.
"There's a unique thrill in hearing your child say 'Action.' On July 25, #SarZameen arrives on JioCinema – my son's first film as director and my greatest joy as a parent," Boman wrote, encapsulating the immense pride and happiness he feels for Kayoze.
Sarzameen marks a significant milestone for Kayoze, transitioning from acting to directing. The film features a stellar cast including Kajol, Prithviraj Sukumaran, and Ibrahim Ali Khan, set against the politically and emotionally charged backdrop of Kashmir. The film revolves around themes of family, duty, and identity.
The teaser of Sarzameen offers a glimpse into the film's intense narrative. Prithviraj Sukumaran plays Vijay Menon, an army officer deeply committed to his nation. Kajol portrays his wife, Meera, who serves as the family's emotional anchor, grappling with loneliness and secrets. Ibrahim Ali Khan plays their son, Harman, who is battling emotional trauma and unsettling truths about his family. The teaser hints at a complex story of personal conflict, national duty and emotional struggles.
Kayoze described Sarzameen as "profoundly intense and deeply intimate". He added that the film allowed him to explore emotional battlefields as impactful as physical ones and that working with such a powerful cast was a privilege. Karan Johar, who is producing the film under Dharma Productions, called Sarzameen "a deeply emotional story about duty, family, and the choices that shape us". He added, "This isn't just a thriller—it's a journey of staying true to your values when everything is on the line".
The release of the teaser has generated considerable buzz online. Some have drawn comparisons between Kajol's character in Sarzameen and her role in the 2006 film Fanaa, which was also set in Kashmir. Others have expressed excitement for Prithviraj Sukumaran's commanding screen presence.
Sarzameen is written by Soumil Shukla and Arun Singh, with dialogues by Kausar Munir and Jehan Handa. The film is produced by Hiroo Yash Johar, Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, and Apoorva Mehta under Dharma Productions, along with Star Studios. Sarzameen will premiere on JioCinema on July 25.
