A man has been apprehended by police in the Thane district of Maharashtra for the alleged murder of a 75-year-old woman and the assault of her 97-year-old mother. The accused also allegedly stole jewelry from the residence.
The incident occurred at the victims' farmhouse in Gandulwad village, Shahapur taluka, between August 18 and 19. The accused has been identified as Shivaji Balvant Dhasade, 25 years old. According to officials, unidentified individuals entered the farmhouse and attacked the elderly women. Veena Daulataram Harpalani, 75, died after being struck with a hard, blunt object. Her mother, Laxmi Narayandas Dalvani, 97, sustained serious injuries during the attack.
Based on a complaint filed by the deceased's brother, authorities registered a case on August 19 at the Khinavli police station. The case involves multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Section 103 (1) for murder, Section 109 for attempted murder, Section 311 for robbery or dacoity with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt, and Section 332(b) for house trespass to commit an offense.
The local crime branch provided assistance in the investigation by questioning workers and local residents. Based on intelligence and technical inputs, police detained Dhasade, who confessed to his involvement in the crime.
