The legal drama "The Trial: Pyaar, Kaanoon, Dhokha" is returning for a second season on JioHotstar, premiering on September 19, 2025. The series, an Indian adaptation of the American show "The Good Wife," features Kajol in the lead role as Noyonika Sengupta, a lawyer navigating complex personal and professional challenges. The recently released trailer offers a glimpse into the new season, highlighting themes of betrayal, ambition, and rediscovery.
Kubbra Sait reprises her role as Sana Shaikh, a consultant at the firm, and Karanvir Sharma joins the cast as a new partner, adding fresh dynamics to the law firm. At the trailer launch of 'The Trial Season 2', Kajol lauded Kubbra for her positive attitude, calling it one of the "rare" qualities of a person in today's life. The returning cast also includes Jisshu Sengupta, Sonali Kulkarni, Sheeba Chaddha, and Alyy Khan. Veteran actor-comedian Asrani also joins the cast, making his OTT debut as a fellow lawyer.
Season 2 picks up where the first season ended, with Noyonika facing a deteriorating marriage with her husband, Rajiv, played by Jisshu Sengupta, and demanding a divorce. Rajiv, seeking a political comeback, wants Noyonika's support to boost his career, creating further conflict between them. Their strained relationship is further complicated by Rajiv's political adversary, Narayani Dhole, played by Sonali Kulkarni, who is willing to use dirty tactics to maintain her dominance.
Noyonika also faces new challenges at her law firm, where Malini Khanna, portrayed by Sheeba Chaddha, is fighting to hold onto her position. The reappearance of Vishal, Noyonika's former flame, played by Alyy Khan, adds another layer of emotional complexity.
Kajol describes the new season as "darker, deeper, and far more personal," with Noyonika fighting to keep her world from falling apart. She notes that Noyonika doesn't have all the answers but keeps going with grit, vulnerability, and heart. Jisshu Sengupta says his character, Rajiv, is at a turning point, with growing ambitions and increasing pressure, deception, and emotional undercurrents between him and Noyonika.
Director Umesh Bist aimed to raise the emotional and narrative stakes for Noyonika in Season 2, balancing the intensity of the legal drama with the subtle unraveling of her character. The season explores themes of power, identity, and the personal cost of standing up for oneself, especially as a woman.
The trailer also shows Noyonika taking on new cases and fighting for her clients in the courtroom. A turning point in the narrative occurs when her child is hospitalized, leading Noyonika to declare that a mother can do anything for her children. This incident transforms Noyonika into a fierce mother, willing to confront powerful politicians to protect her family.
"The Trial: Pyaar, Kaanoon, Dhokha" is produced by Banijay Asia and directed by Umesh Bist. The series is known for its smart writing and layered characters and promises more twists and intense courtroom battles in the new season. Kajol says that the season is much more interesting and complex than its predecessor.
