Following the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) victory in the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025, the party has suspended former Union Minister R.K. Singh on grounds of "anti-party activities". The suspension, which took effect on Saturday, November 15, 2025, comes with a show-cause notice asking Singh to explain why he should not be expelled from the party.
R.K. Singh, a veteran politician from Bihar and a two-time Member of Parliament representing Arrah, has been openly critical of the NDA leadership and has leveled accusations against the Nitish Kumar government. The BJP has stated that Singh's conduct has violated party discipline and caused organizational harm. The notice issued to Singh requires him to clarify his position within a week, explaining why he should not be expelled.
"You are indulging in anti-party activities… Therefore, you are being suspended and asked to explain why you should not be expelled. Clarify your position within a week," the BJP stated in its notice.
Prior to entering politics, Singh was a former diplomat and served as Home Secretary during the Manmohan Singh government before joining the BJP in 2013. He secured victories from Arrah in both 2014 and 2019, and he was appointed Power Minister in the Modi 1.0 cabinet. However, he lost his seat in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
The BJP's action against Singh signals the party's focus on maintaining discipline and addressing dissent within its ranks, particularly in the aftermath of the Bihar elections. The party is taking a firm stance against any behavior it deems detrimental to its unity and organizational integrity. The suspension and the issuance of a show-cause notice underscore the seriousness with which the BJP is treating the matter. Singh's response to the notice will likely determine his future within the party and whether further disciplinary actions will be taken.
