Hyderabad, November 15, 2025 – The much-anticipated collaboration between director S.S. Rajamouli and superstar Mahesh Babu has officially been titled ‘Varanasi’. The title was revealed at a grand "Globetrotter" event held today at Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad. The event, attended by thousands of fans, also unveiled a powerful first look at Mahesh Babu's character.
The first glimpse shows Mahesh Babu riding a large white Nandi (bull) amidst a dusty, temple-filled backdrop. He is seen wielding a Trishul (trident), with blood on his face, evoking a sense of divine strength and heroism inspired by Hindu mythology and Lord Shiva. The visual suggests an action-packed sequence with cultural and religious depth.
‘Varanasi’ is expected to be a globe-trotting and time-trotting adventure film. Sources indicate the film will blend action, mystery, and mythology with a jungle exploration theme. The film is reportedly based on the concept of time travel, set in both the ancient and modern world. Unlike Rajamouli's previous epic films, ‘Varanasi’ promises a unique blend of genres.
The film also stars Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Prithviraj Sukumaran in lead roles. While Mahesh Babu plays a rugged explorer, Priyanka Chopra will portray Mandakini, a strong and mysterious character. Prithviraj Sukumaran will be playing the main antagonist, Kumbha, who is described as sharp and scientifically minded.
Industry sources reported that the "Globetrotter" event was planned as a cultural moment, with over 50,000 fans gathering under one roof. A massive screen, reportedly the largest ever used in films, was erected for the event. The event included a live performance of the movie's title track by musicians Shruti Haasan and Divine.
Rajamouli shared that the film's title and first glimpse would be available online after being revealed on the big screen at the event. The first look and teaser are expected to premiere digitally on JioHotstar.
‘Varanasi’ marks the first collaboration of Rajamouli with Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra, and Prithviraj Sukumaran. The film is currently under production, with the entire shoot expected to wrap up by mid-next year. While not officially confirmed, the film is expected to release in March 2027 in multiple languages.
