On Thursday, January 1, 2026, the Border Security Force (BSF) apprehended a Bangladeshi national near the International Border (IB) in the Gajansoo area of Jammu and Kashmir. The individual, identified as 19-year-old Shariful Islam Bhuiyan, is the son of Mozibul Haque Bhuiyan and a resident of the Adra area within the Comilla district of Bangladesh.
BSF personnel, conducting routine border surveillance, initially detained Shariful Islam. Following initial questioning by the BSF, he was handed over to the Jammu Police at Border Police Post (BPP) Gajansoo, under Police Station Kanachak, for further investigation. Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding his crossing of the border and verifying other details.
The BSF is preparing to launch its annual winter security exercise, Operation 'Sard Hawa' (Cold Wind), across sensitive areas of the Kashmir frontier, key security posts in Jammu, and the desert areas of Rajasthan along the India-Pakistan border and the Line of Control. This operation aims to prevent increased infiltration attempts that often occur during winter due to reduced visibility from dense fog. The operation is expected to begin next month and continue until the end of January, a critical period before Republic Day celebrations. Heightened security measures, including increased vigilance and patrolling, will be adopted along the India-Pakistan border during this time.
