Jammu & Kashmir: Terror Suspects Arrested in Ganderbal with Weapons; Rifle Found in Doda Forest Search.

In a coordinated effort to combat terrorism, Jammu and Kashmir Police have achieved significant breakthroughs in Ganderbal and Doda districts. Two terror associates were apprehended in Ganderbal with arms and ammunition, while the Special Operations Group (SOG) recovered a rifle and ammunition in the Doda forest.

On Wednesday, December 31, 2025, Ganderbal Police, along with the Special Operations Group (SOG) Ganderbal, carried out an operation in Ganderbal district, resulting in the recovery of arms, explosives, and a substantial amount of cash. Two individuals, Ghulam Nabi Mir, a resident of Banger Mohalla, Hajin in Bandipora, and Shabnum Nazir, a resident of Shalabugh, Ganderbal, were arrested. The accused were intercepted near Gundrehman Bridge while traveling in an auto-rickshaw.

The search led to the recovery of one Chinese pistol, one magazine, four live rounds, and two hand grenades. Additionally, a cash amount of Rs 8.40 lakh was seized. A case has been registered at Police Station Ganderbal under FIR No. 204/2025, invoking Section 13 of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act and Sections 7 and 25 of the Indian Arms Act. Investigations are underway to determine the origin of the recovered items and any potential connections to militant or criminal networks. Initial reports suggest that Ghulam Nabi Mir may have been working as an overground worker for terror groups, potentially involved in courier activities or as a terror associate.

In a separate operation in Doda district, the Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police recovered arms and ammunition during a coordinated search operation in the Bhalara Forest area under Thathri Police Station limits on Sunday, December 7, 2025. The operation was conducted based on specific intelligence inputs and was supervised by SSP Doda Sandeep Mehta. The SOG team recovered one SLR rifle, two magazines, and 22 live rounds from the dense forest.

Police stated that the recovery significantly enhances the security grid in the region, preventing potential misuse of the weapons by anti-social or anti-national elements. The J&K Police's commitment to maintaining peace, stability, and public safety in Doda district was underscored by the operation. An investigation has been launched to trace the origin of the recovered weapon and identify the individuals or networks involved.

These successful operations demonstrate the unwavering commitment of the Jammu & Kashmir Police to maintain peace and security in the region. Earlier in November, Shopian police conducted extensive raids targeting individuals and premises linked to the banned organization Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI), which is proscribed under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. JeI-J&K has been banned multiple times, most recently in 2019, with the restriction extended for another five years in February 2024 due to alleged separatist activities and links with militant outfits.
