Mumbai, Jan 24, 2026 - Himesh Reshammiya has described his experience creating the music for the upcoming war drama "Battle of Galwan" as deeply moving, emphasizing that his reunion with Salman Khan for the film is an "extremely special" highlight. The film, directed by Apoorva Lakhia and produced by Salman Khan and his mother Salma Khan, is slated for release on April 17.
Reshammiya composed the music for "Maatrubhumi," the first track released from "Battle of Galwan". The song features vocals by Arijit Singh, Shreya Ghoshal, and Master Mani Dharamkot, with lyrics penned by Sameer Anjaan. The music video for "Maatrubhumi" was released on Saturday by Himesh Reshammiya Melodies.
"Composing Maatrubhumi for Battle of Galwan was deeply emotional," Reshammiya shared. He further explained that he drew inspiration from the rhythm and intensity of army beats to create the song's soul. Reshammiya also noted the collaboration with Arijit Singh and Shreya Ghoshal as particularly special. He added that the reunion with Salman Khan and the music's release under the Salman Khan Films Music label made the project truly memorable.
"Battle of Galwan" is based on the June 15, 2020, clashes in the Galwan Valley, where 20 Indian Army personnel were killed while defending Indian territory. Salman Khan portrays Colonel Bikkumalla Santosh Babu, who was posthumously awarded the Maha Vir Chakra, India's second-highest wartime gallantry honor, for his courage during the confrontation. The film's teaser was released on December 27, coinciding with Salman Khan's 60th birthday.
The six-minute-14-second-long music video for "Maatrubhumi" captures moments of Salman Khan as Santosh with his family and on the battlefield, highlighting the struggles endured for the love of the motherland. The song expresses gratitude to the country for the strength to overcome challenges and protect the nation. Chitrangda Singh appears in the video as Salman's wife.
Apoorva Lakhia revealed Himesh Reshammiya's involvement, along with veteran lyricist Sameer Anjaan, in creating the film's musical score. Lakhia plans to shoot all the fight sequences in real locations to add authenticity to the film. Reports indicate that Salman Khan underwent rigorous training, including gym sessions in a low-oxygen environment, to acclimatize to the conditions in Ladakh.
The military standoff in eastern Ladakh began in May 2020, culminating in the Galwan Valley clashes in June of the same year. "Maatrubhumi" is described as the heartfelt patriotic core of "Battle of Galwan".
