Rani Mukerji is set to reprise her role as the fierce Shivani Shivaji Roy in Mardaani 3, which has received a U/A 16+ certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The film is scheduled to be released on January 30, 2026.
The CBFC granted the certificate on January 14, 2026. According to Bollywood Hungama, the film's approved runtime is 2 hours, 10 minutes, and 36 seconds, making it the longest in the Mardaani series. The first half of the film is slightly longer, clocking in at 1 hour, 6 minutes, and 30 seconds, while the second half runs for 1 hour, 4 minutes, and 6 seconds. Mardaani (2014) had a runtime of 113 minutes, and Mardaani 2 (2019) was 103 minutes long.
Several modifications were made to the film during the censor process. These include: * The insertion of drug disclaimers * Replacing the word "bachhi" with "ladki" * Submitting age proof of an actor involved in a scene with sexual violence to confirm she was not a minor * Modifying visuals of a girl being slapped * Replacing the word "wh**e" with "trader" in the English subtitles * Muting a derogatory reference to a mother * Replacing words referencing sexual organs with appropriate terms * Replacing words with negative references to the Government of India * Deleting the names of certain countries in a scene * Submitting a clarification regarding a dialogue made by kidnappers * Inserting information text on child and woman trafficking
In addition to these changes, the makers of Mardaani 3 voluntarily approached the CBFC to make further cuts, resulting in modifications to as many as 14 scenes, which were either deleted or shortened.
Mardaani 3 sees Rani Mukerji's character, Shivani Shivaji Roy, now working with the NIA and tackling the case of missing children. The trailer depicts a disturbing statistic: "thousand daughters go missing every week" in India. Shivani is called to Delhi's NIA to investigate the kidnapping of two girls from Bulandshahr and discovers a deeper racket led by Amma, played by Mallika Prasad.
Directed by Abhiraj Minawala and written by Aayush Gupta, Mardaani 3 is produced by Aditya Chopra under the Yash Raj Films banner. The film also stars Janki Bodiwala. This installment shifts the focus from male antagonists to a female villain, Amma.
The Mardaani franchise has been successful, with the first film addressing human trafficking and the second focusing on a juvenile serial rapist. Mardaani (2014) was a moderate box office success, while Mardaani 2 (2019) saw growth in earnings.
