Bhushan Kumar Confirms Border 3: Sunny Deol to Continue War Drama Legacy After Sequel's Triumph

Riding on the wave of Border 2's box office success, producer Bhushan Kumar has confirmed that Border 3 is officially in development. The announcement comes amidst the strong performance of Border 2, which hit theaters on January 23, 2026, coinciding with the Republic Day weekend. The film has garnered positive reviews and a strong audience response.

Border 2, directed by Anurag Singh, is considered a spiritual sequel to the 1997 film, Border. Set against the backdrop of the 1971 India-Pakistan War, the film expands its scope to include the combined operations of the Indian Armed Forces, featuring the Army, Air Force, and Navy. The film stars Sunny Deol in the lead role, alongside an ensemble cast including Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty. Mona Singh, Sonam Bajwa, Anya Singh, and Medha Rana also appear in pivotal roles.

Kumar, in an interview with Hindustan Times, shared updates on his collaborations with director Anurag Singh, who also directed Border 2. While discussing another project, Kumar confirmed the third installment, stating, "We are doing a joint venture (a different film) with his company and my company. He'll be directing, and it will be something new. Border 3 will happen in due course". He further emphasized the inevitability of continuing the franchise, stating, "Obviously, it is such a big franchise... If you bring something back after almost 30 years and it is getting so much love, we will definitely take it forward".

According to reports, Border 2 grossed over ₹200 crore in its first extended weekend. As Border 3 moves forward, expectations are that the film will continue to focus on the bravery and sacrifices of Indian soldiers while adapting its scale and storytelling to contemporary audiences.

Border 3 will be a collaboration between Bhushan Kumar's T-Series and JP Dutta and Nidhi Dutta's JP Films. However, Kumar clarified that the project won't start immediately, as they will complete other projects first. The director for Border 3 has not yet been finalized. Before Border 3, Bhushan and Anurag will work on another project together.
