Seth Jarvis, a dynamic forward for the Carolina Hurricanes, has received the coveted call-up to Hockey Canada's Olympic roster for the 2026 Winter Games in Milano Cortina. The announcement came on Thursday, February 5th, as the team prepared for their final game before the Olympic break. Jarvis will be replacing Tampa Bay Lightning forward Brayden Point, who was ruled out due to an undisclosed injury.
"Great reason to interrupt my nap," Jarvis said after Carolina's 2-0 win against the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden. "I take those pretty seriously, but for that reason I'm more than happy to wake up. He just broke the news to me."
The Winnipeg native is currently enjoying a stellar season with the Hurricanes, leading the team with 25 goals. In 48 games played, he has also contributed 18 assists, placing him sixth on the team, and 43 points, tying him for third. Furthermore, Jarvis leads the Hurricanes in shorthanded goals with three and game-winning goals with six. This marks his third consecutive season with at least 25 goals, showcasing his consistent offensive prowess. In the previous two seasons, he scored 33 in 2023-24 and 32 in 2024-25.
Jarvis's impressive performance this season solidified his position as a strong candidate for the Olympic roster. He was previously a part of Team Canada at the 4 Nations Face-Off in February 2025, where he tallied one assist in three games. Although he was among the final cuts for the initial 25-man Olympic roster announced on December 31, he was advised to remain prepared as a potential injury replacement.
"They told me to stay ready," Jarvis said. "You never want to see someone go down, especially Pointer, someone I model a lot of my game after and have a ton of respect for."
The 24-year-old was originally planning a trip to Cabo San Lucas during the Olympic break, but those plans have been happily scrapped. Instead, he is now scrambling to finalize his travel arrangements to join the rest of the NHL players on a charter flight from New York to Milan on Saturday.
"Obviously, I love warm weather, but this is absolutely a great reason not to go," Jarvis said gleefully.
Selected 13th overall by the Hurricanes in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, Jarvis has steadily developed into a key player for the team. He signed an eight-year, $63.2 million contract extension with the Hurricanes in August 2024, demonstrating the organization's confidence in his long-term potential. Throughout his NHL career, Jarvis has played 352 games, accumulating 121 goals and 135 assists for a total of 256 points.
Jarvis's inclusion on the Olympic roster has been met with excitement from both the Hurricanes organization and fans. His skill, versatility, and dedication make him a valuable asset to Team Canada as they aim for gold at the 2026 Winter Olympics. His first game at the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Games will be on Feb. 12 against Czechia.
"To be able to play at the highest level, on a stage like this, is everyone's dream," Jarvis said.
