Rapper Lil Jon is mourning the death of his 27-year-old son, Nathan Smith, also known as DJ Young Slade. Smith was found dead in a pond in Milton, Georgia, after being reported missing on Tuesday, February 3rd.

The Milton Police Department announced on Friday, February 6th, that divers with the Cherokee County Fire Department recovered a body from a pond near where Smith was last seen. While official confirmation from the Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office is pending, authorities believe the body to be that of Nathan Smith.

Lil Jon released a statement to PEOPLE, expressing his devastation. "I am extremely heartbroken for the tragic loss of our son, Nathan Smith. His mother and I are devastated," the rapper stated. He described Nathan as "the kindest human being you would ever meet," highlighting his caring, thoughtful, polite, passionate, and warmhearted nature. Lil Jon also noted his son's immense love for family and friends.

Smith was reported to have left his home around 6 a.m. on February 3rd, a short distance from the pond where the body was discovered. Authorities initially released limited information about the circumstances of his disappearance but indicated he may have been disoriented and in need of assistance.

Lil Jon's statement also emphasized Nathan's talent and accomplishments. "He was an amazingly talented young man; a music producer, an artist and engineer, and graduate of NYU," the statement read. Lil Jon shared that he and Nathan's mother were comforted knowing they expressed their love and appreciation for him during their last times together. "We loved Nathan with all of our hearts and are incredibly proud of him," he said.

The Milton Police Department is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding Smith's death. According to the police, there is no indication of foul play. The investigation remains "open and active" pending official confirmation of identity and cause of death from the Medical Examiner's Office.

A publicist for Lil Jon had previously released a statement on Wednesday, requesting privacy for the family and asking for continued prayers for Nathan.
