A tragic incident in Guna, Madhya Pradesh, has claimed the life of Deepak Mahavar, a 42-year-old snake rescuer. Mahavar, a well-known figure in the community for his snake rescuing activities, died after being bitten by a cobra that he had rescued.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, when Mahavar was dropping his children off at school. He had the cobra draped around his neck like a garland. It was then the cobra bit him.

Mahavar was rushed to a hospital, where he was administered antivenom. However, the delay in receiving medical help rendered the treatment ineffective, and he succumbed to the snakebite.

Deepak Mahavar was a temporary employee at JP College and was known for saving thousands of snakes. He had recently captured the same cobra and kept it in a glass container, intending to display it during an upcoming Shravan month procession. A video of him with the snake had gone viral on social media.

Mahavar is survived by his two sons, Raunak, 12, and Chirag, 14. His wife had passed away earlier. His loss has deeply affected his family and the community.
