Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), a Navratna Defence Public Sector Undertaking, has secured a significant order worth ₹1,640 crore from the Indian Ministry of Defence for the supply of Air Defence Fire Control Radars to the Indian Army. The contract, signed on July 25, 2025, reinforces BEL's position as a key player in India's self-reliance push in defence technology under the 'Make in India' initiative.

These indigenous Air Defence Fire Control Radars, known as "Atulya," are designed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and manufactured by BEL. The advanced radar systems provide effective defense against aerial threats during both day and night and in all weather conditions. The "Atulya" radar systems enhance the Indian Army's air defense capabilities by providing all-weather surveillance, tracking, and control of air defense guns.

The Air Defence Fire Control Radar (ADFCR) Atulya system serves as an effective point defence mechanism against all air threats, including fighter aircraft, helicopters, and UAVs at short and very short ranges. These state-of-the-art indigenous radars enhance the Indian Army's capability to counter modern aerial threats with advanced surveillance and tracking technologies. These radars feature inbuilt Electronic Counter Measure (ECM) capabilities. They are used for surveillance, acquisition, and tracking of air targets, and for controlling air defence guns for effective neutralization. The system's modular design ensures it is easy to deploy, operate, and maintain.

This contract represents another milestone in India's Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative and Make in India program, showcasing indigenous design and manufacturing capabilities in the defence sector. The order strengthens BEL's position as a leading defence electronics manufacturer and contributes to reducing dependence on imports.
