In the wake of the tragic terrorist attack in Pahalgam in April 2025, the Defence Ministry has refuted a viral report circulating regarding the identities of the terrorists involved. The ministry has officially debunked the report as fake, urging the public to rely only on verified sources for information.

The Pahalgam terror attack, which occurred in the Baisaran meadows of South Kashmir's Anantnag district, resulted in numerous injuries and fatalities. The incident prompted immediate responses, including a high-level meeting chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. Security forces launched a widespread search operation to apprehend the attackers.

Following the attack, Home Minister Amit Shah convened a security meeting with top officials and confirmed in Lok Sabha that the three terrorists killed in "Operation Mahadev" were responsible for the Pahalgam attack, where 26 civilians were murdered. He condemned the act and expressed sympathy to the victims' families.

The Indian Army eliminated two terrorists attempting to infiltrate across the Line of Control (LoC) in the Poonch sector of Jammu and Kashmir. The operation, which followed intelligence inputs from various units and the Jammu and Kashmir Police, led to the recovery of weapons and thwarted potential further attacks.

The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has officially linked Lashkar-e-Taiba's offshoot, The Resistance Front (TRF), to the Pahalgam attack. The UNSC report noted that TRF had claimed responsibility for the attack. According to the UNSC, one state said that the Pahalgam attack “could not have happened without LeT's support”.

The US government has designated TRF as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) and Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT).
