A cloudburst in the remote Jod Ghati village of Kathua district in Jammu and Kashmir has resulted in the tragic death of four people and injuries to six others. The incident occurred overnight between Saturday and Sunday, disrupting access to the village and causing damage to land and property.

Rescue teams, including police and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), have reached the affected area to provide assistance and transport the injured to hospitals. Local volunteers are also assisting in the rescue operations. Authorities have confirmed the recovery of four bodies and the rescue of six injured individuals.

The cloudburst has caused significant damage to infrastructure, including portions of railway tracks and the National Highway. Preliminary reports also indicate that the Kathua Police Station was impacted by the natural disaster.

In addition to Jod Ghati, landslides have been reported in Bagard and Changda villages, which fall under the jurisdiction of the Kathua police station, and in Dilwan-Hutli in the Lakhanpur police station area. While these landslides occurred, no major damage has been reported.

Heavy rainfall in the region has led to a sharp increase in the water level of most water bodies, with the Ujh river flowing near the danger mark. The district administration is closely monitoring the situation and has requested people to stay away from water bodies for their safety.

This incident follows a previous cloudburst in Kishtwar, which resulted in numerous fatalities. The current weather forecast for the Jammu Division indicates continued chances of thunderstorms and rain in the coming days. The district administration remains vigilant and is taking necessary measures to ensure the safety of residents in the region.
