Shaad Randhawa, son of wrestler and actor Randhawa and Malika (sister of veteran actress Mumtaz), recently shared insights into his family's legacy and the journeys of its prominent members. In an exclusive interview, Randhawa opened up about his mother's sister, Mumtaz, and his 'Taya Ji' (father's elder brother), the legendary Dara Singh.

Reflecting on Mumtaz's career, Shaad Randhawa emphasized that her path to success was far from easy. Mumtaz, who started her Bollywood journey with minor roles, faced her share of struggles before achieving stardom. Randhawa acknowledged the hard work and perseverance that defined her career, recognizing the challenges she overcame to become a celebrated actress.

Dara Singh, Shaad Randhawa's "Taya Ji," remains an iconic figure in Indian cinema and wrestling. Randhawa fondly remembered him as a "gentle" person. Dara Singh, known for his role as Hanuman in Ramanand Sagar's Ramayan, was not only a world-renowned wrestler but also a versatile actor who appeared in numerous films.

Dara Singh's foray into Bollywood began with the film 'Sangdil' in 1952. However, his path to stardom wasn't without obstacles. When producers were casting for his second film, 'Faulad,' many leading actresses were hesitant to work with him. It was Mumtaz, then a budding actress, who agreed to star opposite him.

During the filming of 'Faulad' in 1963, rumors of a romance between Dara Singh and Mumtaz began to circulate. They were often seen spending time together, and their connection became a topic of public interest. However, their relationship was short-lived, with Dara Singh attributing the breakup to Bollywood's influence. As Mumtaz's career gained momentum after 'Faulad,' her busy schedule created a distance between them, eventually leading to their separation.

Beyond his family legacy, Shaad Randhawa has been actively involved in the entertainment industry. He began his film career with Mohit Suri's 'Woh Lamhe' in 2006. Since then, he has appeared in various films, including 'Awarapan,' 'Dhoom Dadakka,' 'Aashiqui 2,' and 'Ek Villain'. Randhawa has also worked in television, with roles in shows like 'Chandrakanta' and 'Kumkum Bhagya'. In 2025, Randhawa appeared in the film 'Saiyaara'. He expressed his pleasant surprise at the dedication and talent of his younger co-stars, Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda. He noted their humility and commitment to their roles, acknowledging the positive impact they had on the film.

Randhawa also discussed his close professional relationship with directors Mohit Suri and Milap Zaveri. He emphasized that his roles in their films are based on merit and not solely on friendship. Randhawa mentioned that he had to audition for roles and that he is grateful for the opportunities they have given him. He values their professional approach and appreciates their belief in his abilities as an actor. Randhawa and Suri have worked together on eight films, including 'Saiyaara'.
