The shooting of the upcoming film Pati Patni Aur Woh 2, starring Ayushmann Khurrana, Sara Ali Khan, and Wamiqa Gabbi, faced a violent disruption in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, on August 27, 2025. A scuffle broke out between the film's crew and some local residents while filming a car sequence on Thornhill Road.
According to Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (City) Abhijeet Kumar, Zoheb Solapurwala, the production head of BR Chopra Films, was allegedly attacked by a group of locals. The situation escalated, resulting in physical altercations with other crew members. Videos circulating on social media captured the chaos, showing people arguing and then physically confronting the film crew. While some individuals attempted to de-escalate the situation, others joined in the assault, causing further disruption and damage.
On August 28, Saurabh Tiwari, the line producer for BR Chopra Films, filed a First Information Report (FIR) at the Civil Lines Police Station. Subsequently, police arrested the main accused, identified as Meraj Ali. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, though the exact reasons for the assault remain unclear.
Following the incident, the All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) issued a statement expressing their concern and demanding strict action. The AICWA questioned the Uttar Pradesh government's ability to provide adequate safety and security for film productions in the state, especially after promoting Noida Film City as a shooting hub. They highlighted the lack of proper security arrangements, which was exposed by the presence of Bollywood stars Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan during the incident. The AICWA argued that such attacks are disgraceful, raise concerns about the safety of the Indian film industry workforce, and instill fear in filmmakers and artists who wish to shoot in Uttar Pradesh. They appealed to the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Shri Yogi Adityanath Ji, to take strict action to prevent similar incidents and restore confidence in the state as a safe shooting destination.
Neither the filmmakers nor Ayushmann Khurrana have released an official statement regarding the incident as of August 30, 2025. Despite the disruption, the film's shoot is expected to continue with heightened security measures. Pati Patni Aur Woh 2 is a sequel to the 2019 film of the same name, with Ayushmann Khurrana, Sara Ali Khan, and Wamiqa Gabbi taking over the lead roles from Kartik Aaryan, Bhumi Pednekar, and Ananya Panday. Mudassar Aziz is directing the film, promising a fresh and comic take on the love triangle.
